University of Victoria MacLaurin D Wing Seismic Upgrade

The project is to seismically upgrade the MacLaurin Building D Wing, an existing building on the University’s Gordon Head Campus. The building is occupied by the University’s Associate Registrar for the Faculty of Education, classrooms and washrooms, all intending to continue to operate during normal business hours. The planned scope of work will include removal of hazardous materials, selective demolition, installation of soil anchors, new concrete foundations and shear walls, and alterations/improvements to architectural, mechanical and electrical components affected by the structural improvements.

TRANSFERABLE EXPERIENCE TO THIS PROJECT: This project requires effective coordination of the renovation activities will to ensure that the safety of faculty, students and various user groups is maintained at all times. Eric and Sean attend regular meetings with the building occupants to keep them up to date on the work flow and direction. Sean issues notifications to the owner who distributed to the building occupants and neighbours. This process is valuable to occupant’s understanding the challenges of the work and planning for their own work and it will be transferred to the execution of the Children’s Development Centre.
