Port Moody Fire Hall

Client: City of Port Moody
Prime Consultant: Chernoff Thompson Architects
Location: Port Moody, BC
Completion: February 2014

Port Moody Fire Hall is a state of the art inlet centre fire hall, located directly next to City Hall in the heart of Port Moody. It has two sets of high bay parking areas for seven trucks, including four drive-through primary truck bays and three secondary truck bays. The building also includes administrative offices, dormitory facilities, on-call and training facilities and a vintage truck exhibit.

Built to post disaster standards, the total size of the building was 21, 000 sq. ft. and the facility was designed with mechanical and electrical systems that are green in nature. Several sustainable elements were put in place within this facility, including storm water retentionĀ in the crawl space, which provided non-potable water to the toilets and urinals, a green roof, a diesel extraction system in both truck bays, an in-floor radiant heating system in both truck bays, and all site storm water was directed back to the wet-lands, through a series of bio-swales, rather than into the city’s storm system.
