COMPLETION OF SHELLED IN OPERATING ROOMS
December 2014 | InsideOut Planning and Architecture Inc.
This project consisted of the completion and fitting out of the two shelled OR suites, taking them from “shelled in” to completion, including the infrastructure and installation of overhead gantry lifts and surgical booms which required structural steel frame work above the ceilings. The upgrade included all new services including mechanical systems, medical gas, new electrical, nurse call and medical pass-throughs. The project also required a significant upgrade to the primary mechanical air handling system servicing the department, which required carefully orchestrated shutdowns of the entire operating floor.
Construction took place within the OR department and the mechanical room on the floor above the OR’s. The scope required level four hoarding above and below the ceilings and through the sterile core of the operating department.
PALLIATIVE CARE UNIT
October 2008 | David Poiron Architects
This project involved demolitions and major renovations to create a single-storey palliative care wing at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. During this non-combustible renovation project, Kinetic replaced the existing wood frame with steel stud (the structure was concrete). All the work was accomplished within a fully operational facility, with limited site access.
