Kinetic Employee Helps Found U40 Group
Trevor Coyle, Project Superintendent at our Courtenay Branch recently initiated the establishment of the Nanaimo U40 group with the Vancouver Island Construction Association. The purpose of this group is to provide young leaders with exposure to educational resources, technology and networking opportunities that will help advance them in their careers and promote their organizations.
“I originally discussed this with Greg Baynton, former CEO of VICA and Rosie Manhas, Director of Operations at VICA about four years ago, but with my busy schedule and traveling for work I was not able to commit. However, last year in May, while I was working on the Nanaimo Pharmacy Expansion project, I saw a great opportunity to make this group happen since I was splitting my time between Nanaimo and Courtenay,” he said.
Trevor canvassed all of Kinetic’s suppliers and subtrades through the summer until he had interest from about 35 people and then he started looking for motivated individuals to form the executive committee. He continued, “This, I felt was the key component and also worth waiting for. I got to know Jason Howlett, the General Manager of Current Millwork during a bullet proof manager course series and I felt that he was exactly who I needed to be able to pull the trigger. After naming him as my Vice-Chair, he and I enrolled Yosef Suna, Project Manager and co-owner at Knappet Industries, Jordan Almond, Design Coordinator at Island West Coast Developments and Mark Parry, President and Managing Director at Core Canada Insurance Solutions.”
“We announced the formation of the committee at the January VICA member mixer in Nanaimo and held our first event on February 23, 2017. The event was extremely successful and had almost 40 people show up! We have two more events scheduled so far; one is a mixer in Nanaimo with the U40’s from Victoria and the second is a speaker series with Mike Lorenze – a high-level business consultant who is tailoring a course for young leadership. Mike is also currently training many of our senior managers here at Kinetic,” Trevor added.
Congratulations to Trevor on this great accomplishment. Way to go!
