Spotlight on Surrey Memorial Hospital’s CAPSU Project
Kinetic is currently working on the Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Short Stay Unit (CAPSU) project at Surrey Memorial Hospital, which opens this year. The project was recently featured on Fraser Health’s the beat (a news blog for and by Fraser Health employees) and was described as “Life Changing” and “Life Saving!” by clinicians who were asked about the project.
Child and adolescent mental health has been of increasing concern for health authorities in BC, due to the increasing number of children in need of care and treatment. The lack of necessary services catered to children 6 to 12 years of age specifically means that these children are robbed of a regular childhood and are left to continue living in crisis.
About the project
The old Emergency Department at Surrey Memorial Hospital is being upgraded to a new Psychiatric Unit. The project involves demolition of the entire existing space including cabinets, walls, electrical, mechanical, and exterior walls and new treatment rooms, patient rooms, offices, millwork, flooring and walls. Mechanical and electrical upgrades throughout the space are also being performed.
Aaron Thibault is Superintendent and Matt Sander is Project Manager on CAPSU.
